Ep. 65: RSEvents! locations and Google Maps

With RSEvents!, you can create event locations with specific information. Besides general locations features, this episode shows you how you can configure the Google maps and Geocode options.

Locations and Google Maps integration

  1. 1. For a location, you can specify its name, alias, URL, Address, Zip, City, State, Country and Description.
  2. 2. You can enable Google maps to pinpoint a certain location.
  3. 3. To enable Google Maps, in the Joomla! backend panel head to RSEvents! >> Settings >> Locations. Here, you can also enable the Geocode option to convert the location address to geographic coordinates.
  4. 4. RSEvents! supports 3 types of Google maps: normal, hybrid and satellite. For the selected map, you can configure its maximum zoom level.
  5. 5. In order to use Google maps, you'll need an API key from http://code.google.com/apis/maps/signup.html.
Copy the API key and paste it in the RSEvents! Settings tab. For each given address, RSEvents! will pinpoint the location on Google Maps. When Geocode is enabled, it will also show the location coordinates.
  6. 6. In the "Events" tab, you can set up where the events will be held. You can customize the event theme with specific location placeholders. All available placeholders are listed in the "Themes" tab: location name, URL, address, city, state and description.
  7. 7. Starting with RSEvents! rev. 25, visitors can use the Google maps directions feature to get directions on the event location. This option can be enabled via the RSEvents! "Settings" tab.

  1. In frontend, RSEvents! displays the event location through Google maps.
