TOPIC: no end time

no end time 12 years 2 months ago #21724

I use RSEvents! pro and am very satisfied. I have another event we need to transpose the page and would also like to use the extension. however, it is required that is not part of the stated end-time events. this is a very important because it is about many abendveranstatlungen point the open end and not be limited to a Time. if this is not possible, we can not use the extension. can you give me modest if you realize this can somehow?

I am glad you like the component, but every event has a start and end date. Just think of what would happen if an event wouldn't have an end date... How exactly would you display it in interval listings, or calendar for that matter ? Would you still be able to subscribe to the event while this is running ? There are lot of things to consider when having such requests...

It is actually not viable to have an event that goes one "forever" - the truth is that the event (just like all things) will end eventually - thus the event end date.

I do understand your request, and have some scenarios in mind that would use this, but you can simply set a ver, very long end date for example. Further to this, RSEvents!Pro is flexible enough to allow template overrides, so you can exclude the event date from being displayed (or code an exception for it).

As a different workaround, you can also implement this using recurring events (i doubt that you have an event that actually goes on, non-stop, forever - you will most likely have an event that repeats itself every day, for a not (yet) defined period of time).

I agree, the way you handle recurring events is not correct. You should be able to put in no end time. For example, churches have Sunday meetings indefinitely, as do many other organizations. Presently, you create all events to the end time. This is not how better coded calendars do recurring events. They will only create events out for awhile for a total of x number of events. As events become past, new future events are created. Currently, if we put out events for 6 months, we have to come back in six months and add more events, this is ridiculous. If we put out events for 3 years every week, we have an insane number of events to list in the recurring event. Please put some thought into this, look at how other calendars are created and make some improvements.
