TOPIC: Registration vs. Ticket Purchase

Registration vs. Ticket Purchase 11 years 7 months ago #24746

I'm rather new to the whole way RSEvents handles fee based registration and I'd like to see if there are work arounds to some of the small issues I have with it all.

First of all, the ability to register (subscribe) to an event before paying for a ticket seems a bit backwards to me. You really should be "registered" for an event until you've actually purchased a ticket . . . at least in my mind that's how it works. The workflow is a bit confusing to customers. After they register to an event, they get a nice onscreen message and an email congratulating them on successfully registering to the event . . . but they still have to pay for a ticket. Oh, their registration isn't active until a ticket is purchased, but a number of things could happen in between these two actions take place. Shouldn't the ticket purchase come first? Because a ticket was purchased by someone, they are THEN considered registered, but not until.

If registered then wait for approval based off of possible ticket purchase completion
or
if ticket purchased, then registered . . . done, no confusion, no vagueness.

My second issue is related to the first. If it has to be in the order described above, then the onscreen confirmation messages need to be consistent. I'm using RSForms to handle the registration forms. When a customer subscribes to an event, they get an onscreen message that I can customize inside RSForms. If there is a free event without a payment option that is. If there is an event with a cost, the event is registered for, the ticket is purchased but the custom onscreen confirmation/thank you message never gets shown. You're left with a system notification that can globally be customized in the language file, but it's not the same as the onscreen message created in the RSForms component. Is this the way it is supposed to be? If so, why? Can I do something to get around this and cause the same onscreen message from the RSForms form to display as with a free event? This just causes confusion yet again.

Just trying to make it as simple as possible for people to register online and not give them any chances to mess it up.

Thanks.
