TOPIC: A Feature Request (or lament)

A Feature Request (or lament) 11 years 10 months ago #24371

Hi

I've been a license holder of RSEvents, literally for years. I think it is an excellent component but ... to this day I still use JEvents on my site. The reason for it is almost trivial, but for me it is important; the reason? JEvents allows me to import JomSocial events into its calendar.

For those who do not use JomSocial, this isn't even a consideration, but since my site is all but centered around the social features of JomSocial, it's a big deal.

Question: Just hard would it be to incorporate a facility to import JomSocial events into the RSEvents calendar?

While I have your attention, I'd like to re-introduce a feature request from a couple of years ago ... Would it be possible to allow members to post their paid events, and utilizing PayPal's Mass Pay, allow the site owner to deduct a fee for posting?

When I first posted this idea, PayPal's Mass Pay didn't exist so I understand the difficult in automating the taking of a fee. But now, there is already another developer who has incorporated this ability into their product (TechJoomla's JTicketing) but it is nowhere near the polished product that RSEvents is.

Okay, so I have that off my chest and feel better, but what are the chances that these two requests can ever be met?

Thanks and keep building good product ...

Hi Frank,

Sounds like a great idea!

This could be a rough way of implementing it...

1. Install "Account Expiration Control" and create a subscription payment plan which upgrades the permissions of the user to "Author".

2. Set the permissions necessary for posting paid events to "Author" in RSEventsPro.

I haven't yet checked to see if RSEventsPro has the necessary granulated permissions, but from memory I think it might... If we're lucky there might also be some plugins for AEC that could help...

Cheers,

Nic

Then again, maybe not... It seems that RSEventsPro DOESN'T have the necessary granulated permissions... :(

The following was suggested to me through a support ticket:
You cannot set up the component in such manner so that you can restrict any user account from creating tickets for events. Through template overrides, however, you can simply remove the 'Add new ticket' tab from the even creation form, as events do not necessarily require defining tickets for them. The process of creating template overrides for RSEvents!Pro is explained here:

These might help... I may explore them later... If anyone creates a working model, please share! :)
