TOPIC: Allow Gif files for image icons

Allow Gif files for image icons 14 years 9 months ago #10969

END-USER Experience.

After spending hours setting this thing up, there are some really nuisance impediments to RS Events being user friendly. Nearly half of all images on the internet are gifs, WHY IS THIS FILES EXTENSION NOT ALLOWED for Image icons??

-There is no indication on the add event form that only jpgs are allowed
-All The added data is lost when the page goes somewhere else to tell you what should be stated in the field label
-More than half of end-users if their file is a gif are not going to know how to convert a gif to jpg

This makes absolutely no since to me, an I hope that someone can tell me how to allow gif files as image icons.

Hello,

There is a simple explanation for the fact that you can't upload GIF images - GIF images can't be re-sized via PHP scripting. Upon uploading a event icon, RSEvents! actually processes two images: a small and a big icon. The small one will be used in the events listings and the big one on the event page.

Currently we are developing a method of going beyond this restriction (resize all kinds of images) but it will be made available for RSEvents! in a couple of weeks.
