TOPIC: Spam making it through the captcha?

Spam making it through the captcha? 16 years 1 month ago #6971

hi - over the last week i've been getting a number of spam submissions through rsform pro with a captcha installed and functioning properly. the submissions seem to be automated but i can't be sure - they advertise "sim card recovery" and other "undelete" stuff - obviously spam and probably virus installers.

has anyone else seen this? are there any ways i can help prevent it? obviously if it's people submitting, i can't do much about it (can i block IP blocks using rsform pro?). but if it's robots doing it, maybe there's a fix?

thanks in advance for any thoughts you can share.

Great, i just upgraded to rs form pro to stop the spam. i believe it is a spam bot produced by someone close to the rs family, which is really sad. i paid for the regular rs form, and now i am hearing that the same spam problem lies within the pro version? i get 20 to 40 spams every 2 or 3 hours.

i thought about blocking the IP addresses, too, but after checking the access logs, it appears that they are from dynamic IP addresses which means that you could never nail down on particular address to ban.

i put in a support ticket (what a lame excuse to say that they help you!) but no one is yet to get back to me, and i doubt they ever will.

I am NOT HAPPY with this product, nor the service and i am going to tell everyone i know NOT to buy this awful product!

as you can tell i am really mad. :(

Hello,

Indeed there were some spam issue with our RSform! component. However this has been fixed long time ago. It would be best to create a backup file uninstall the current version and install the full latest version again ( only applies to RSform! ).

Regarding the RSform!Pro component... please update to the latest version ( revision 22 ) i assure you that you won't have spam problems if you are using a captcha field.

If the problem persists please submit a ticket to tech support.

Dear Willkey... your suppositions are incorrect and misinformed. We do offer support and none of the tickets are ignored.

Yes the captcha is working however here is the real problem and do try this yourself. Try completing one of your forms with captcha on it and you will find it takes several times to get correct. Yes you will stop spam, but you will also take a hit on your conversion rate. Using my analytics and looking at the chart it is easy to see conversions dropped on the same day of instituting the captcha and has been a flat line ever since. I am turning it off and just deal with a daily spam removal maintenance. Our leads are to valuable. Hope you find another solution.
