How - In Submission View under Search

Using below code gives a search field
<input type="text" id="rsfilter" name="filter" value="" onchange="document.adminForm.submit();" />

But how to create a dropdown search. For Instance
If i have 5 cars - Audi, BMW, Benz, Honda, Toyota

and want to restrict search basis dropdown of these cars as selected by user, how to achieve same
The administrator has disabled public write access.
