Hello fellow RSForms community. I am in desperate need of help. I was a long time user of breezingforms and was having some mailing issues where my users would submit a form and sometimes it would get sent and others not. I gotta be honest I got a little upset because their support took some time to get back to me.

Long story short, I switched over to RSForms and I gotta say its pretty nice. However, I am having comparable issues with it.

Some of my users are receiving the dreaded: could not instantiate mail function. I am using the VALID admin email that I have always used.

I have about 90 forms set up. One form for every user. And about half of the users receive that error. The others are able to send their form with no issues.

I am honestly running out of ideas. Anybody out there that want to lend a hand I would greatly apprecaiate it. If someone can troubleshoot for me and can guarranty a fix for me, I will gladly pay.

I followed all of the documentation step by step and nothing seemed to fix the issue.

Here is my setup:
Joomla 3.2
Latest RSForms
Bluehost
Google Apps

I am not quite sure if you read our article or not, but i will lead you to it, just in case:

http://www.rsjoomla.com/support/documentation/view-article/158-could-not-instantiate-mail-function-error.html

It basically lists all possible issues that could cause this. Note that the error in question is not actually generated by the component that is triggering the email, but by the actual email configuration or configured global mailer. RSForm!Pro, like many other Joomla! extensions, use the built-in Joomla! email sending function - sendMail. This implies that if the email details are properly configured, and Joomla! can generate standard emails, there is no reason for it not to work.

If you have gone through the steps provided within the FAQ article and still didn't get to the bottom of this, please submit a customer support ticket so we can help you with this.
Please note: my help is not official customer support. To receive your support, submit a ticket by clicking here

Hello admin211,

i dont know if this information could help you, but i had the above listed error code several times before. In almost every case it was the special security concept of my hoster which caused this issue. At no time this error was based on a form extension like rsform pro (on my projects).

In my case i always had to go to the general configuration page of joomla and change the e-mail setting there. I had to use the PHP-Mailer, server-location was localhost and it was important to use a mail adress for the sender which is registered on the server where your joomla project is also installed. The hoster doesnt allow me to send e-mails from his system in a foreign address.

Excuse my not really well written english, i havent used it for a while now... And notice also, that this is only one case which could initiate the above listed error message..

Blue Host needs the following to process remote email transmissions for domains that are not pointing the Name Servers to that host:

  1. Log on to your account Controls
  2. Create a dummy email account This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  3. Set your MX record to Remote
  4. Forms should now send without error
