TOPIC: [solved] - Help with an upgrade!

[solved] - Help with an upgrade! 12 years 2 months ago #21524

So... I've been given the assignment of updating an old rsformpro plugin.

I downloaded the purchased file, and attempted to install it via the install menu.

It goes through the motions, then ends at this:

If I then go to the components section it shows this version:

BUT...

if I go the the form manager itself, it shows this:

I've checked the permissions on what I believe are all the applicable folders, and they all seem good to go.

Any suggestions?

From what I can see you are using the Akeeba Backup installer - please use the Joomla! one instead to rule out possibilities.
If after using the Joomla! installer you're encountering the same message, please check with your hosting provider - the error message will be present in their error log and will provide more information as to why this error is occurring.

With the Akeeba thing bypassed... this is the error I get when attempting the rsformpro install/upgrade
Fatal error: Call to undefined function rsparse_mysql_dump() in /home/xxxxx/public_html/administrator/components/com_rsform/install.rsform.php on line 28

That function has been missing from RSForm! Pro for quite some time - I suggest you check your file permissions (make sure /administrator/components/com_rsform along with all its subfolders and files are writable - it's possible that the new installation script can't be copied over your old one). Also make sure you are using Joomla! 1.5.26 as older versions have had a bug where they don't copy at all the new installation script.

I'm on 1.5.7

I've set all permissions for that folder and /sub as writeable, but am still receiving the same error?

Is there a guid or something to manually install files?

That's the whole problem - 1.5.7 has an updating bug (it doesn't copy the necessary files and that comes straight from the Joomla! installer). The fact that it worked after uninstalling is just proof that updating is broken on 1.5.7.
I strongly suggest you upgrade to 1.5.26 as you will encounter the same problem if you ever want to update in the future (and 1.5.7 is also highly insecure).

isn't 1.5.7 greater than 1.5.26 ?

Just to clear this up, are you running 1.5.7 (which is a lot earlier than 1.5.26) or 2.5.7?

By the by, if you are running 2.5.7, you might want to upgrade to the latest version (i.e., 2.5.9) as the update will fix a few security issues.
