There are so many Joomla! extensions and more of them are appearing every day, it's impossible for someone to keep track of them, yet alone check their code for security issues. The alarming fact is that most Joomla! extensions, even popular ones, are vulnerable. That's because there are so many developers out there, with different levels of coding experience, who take Joomla! security for granted. But the problem doesn't rely solely on the extensions. Hosting servers usually need to satisfy the needs of many clients. These clients want to be able to run their own scripts, which is their right since they pay for the hosting account, but PHP scripts come in different flavors, and have different file names which the server must interpret as PHP code. This is where RSFirewall! comes into place. we've decided to launch a security extension, which will protect users from coding mistakes and prevent hacking attempts. RSFirewall! consists of an administrator component (this means that it can only be accessed from the back-end) and a system plugin.
The system plugin is the core of the RSFirewall!, which sends alerts, checks data submitted by the user for known malware patterns or MySQL injections, checks core Joomla! files for integrity and other useful actions.
