How to enable Cookies info

A few things about the Cookie Law

The Cookie Law is a piece of privacy legislation that requires websites to get consent from visitors to store or retrieve any information on a computer, smartphone or tablet.

It was designed to protect online privacy, by making consumers aware of how information about them is collected and used online, and give them a choice to allow it or not.

It started as an EU Directive that was adopted by all EU countries in May 2011. The Directive gave individuals rights to refuse the use of cookies that reduce their online privacy. Each country then updated its own laws to comply. In the UK this meant an update to the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations.

RSSeo! Cookie info option

Almost all websites use cookies - little data files - to store information in peoples' web browsers. Some websites contain hundreds of them.

Keeping this in mind we have added a new feature to RSSeo!: the possibility of displaying a Cookie message when the site is accessed.

Step by step guide:

1. In order for RSSeo! to work correctly, the RSSeo! System Plugin needs to be published at all times.

2. Click on the RSSeo! System Plugin and set to "Yes" the "Enable cookie info" option.

3. Add the URL of the Cookie information article in the "Cookie info URL" field.

4. Choose where the Cookie notification to be displayed

5. The Cookie notification will be displayed in the frontend

You can use the standard Joomla! language override feature to provide a different translation on the following language constants:

 • RSSEO_COOKIE_ACCEPT_I_UNDERSTAND="I understand"
 • RSSEO_COOKIE_TEXT="This site uses cookies. By continuing to browse the site, you are agreeing to our use of cookies."
 • RSSEO_COOKIE_INFO=" To find out more, please click here."
