This idea is great. I'm currently testing RStickets! and it's perfect for the system i'm building right now. If you would release a Booking system in the same spirit, i'll be all over it.
What i would need from a booking system:
- Categories/Resources. - Front-end booking request for users. - Specific admins for the resources. - Front-end approval of the bookings by the resource admins. - Front-end editing of "my bookings" that the users can access. - Option to send mails on booking requests, booking changes, booking approvals etc. - Users able to delete their bookings. - A "my bookings" module. - A module to show booked resources in a near future. - A GOOD calendar view with blocks showing what times are available in a easy way. - A module for a small calendar view. - 30 min booking blocks. - User permissions on the resources. Specific users can only book specific resources. - Easy to use "mini calendar" when typing in what time/day you book while creating a booking request. - Admin button for resource admins only.
I'll fill the list if i come up with anything more.
The important thing for me would be to make it "neutral" and easy to use/costumize, unlike the 1000 "Hotel booking components" out there. They're way too complex and makes it really hard to use it on anything else then hotels. The one i'm forced to use right now is "Resource Booking System" by Soft Ventures. It's free, and it's quite good for being free but it's still missing alot of things to satisfy me current needs.

Ditto that!
I tried to get someone to write one of these for me not too long ago & he vanished, having not finished it!
I asked for...
Front End: 1. Registered users of the website have automatic access when logged in to the parent site. Non-registered users can create an account that does not require them to be members of the parent site. 2. Once logged in, the client is taken to a month view calendar page and selects the day on which they wish to book an appointment. Days with available slots are highlighted. 3. They are taken to the booking page for the day they selected. 4. The customer sees the available appointments. Appointments already booked show text "Booked" (Names of people booked are only available in back end). 5. Client selects the type & length of appointment from a check list (type & duration options defined by admin). Importantly, a 40 min appointment means that the user books two concurrent 20 min slots, so there are no defined slots that are only 40 minutes, but any 20 minute slot with another available after it can be booked as a 40 minute slot. 6. Client clicks on the slot they wish to book & are taken to a please confirm page. 7. Non-member customers have to fill out personal info to make booking, members simply click through. 8. Must be able to require captcha or not, as defined by admin. 9. Client is taken to a "Confirmed Booking" page containing booking details. 10. Client receives an email confirming the booking (ideally with a .vcs file to import into their calendar application) - email text can be defined by admin. Must pick up fields from the database (eg.[NAME]) 11. Client can cancel booking if necessary. 12. Client is sent a personalised email reminder 4 hours before their booking - email text can be defined by admin. Must pick up fields from the database (eg.[NAME])
Back End: 1. Registered users have automatic login, unregistered can book, but are not added to site registered users. 2. Admin has ability to choose dates to be available for bookings. 3. Admin as ability to set up time slots for each day - multiples of 5 minutes (my usual slots are 20 or 40 minutes). 4. Admin has ability to repeat time slots for a specific day (eg. same slots every Tuesday). 5. Admin has ability to set slot types 6. Slots defined by starting time 7. Custom fields for unregistered users. Ability to make some required. 8. Overview screen for each day with tooltip or clickable link with each user's telephone numbers.
I currently use Joomla 1.0.x, but would upgrade if necessary.
Thanks
Will

So let me get this right - RSjoomla is working on an RSBooking module? I quickly scanned the wishlist of the other message entries and I think that would pretty much cover what I need as well. We use a dedicated scheduling program right now, but it's been bought out so many times and has been through so many regenerations that nobody can answer our tech support questions, the crazy thing is completely unstable, and it's slow.
What is the projection on this? Thanks.

Just wondering what sort of projected completion time you might have on this? I currently also use a 3rd party solution which is very poor - and getting worse by the day. I'd like to replace it, but ideally with a component on my Joomla! rather than another 3rd party one. There are loads of booking components for hotel rooms, condos etc on the extensions site, but nothing that would book a time slot based service - I assume that's what you're building?

This is a great Idea, I am looking for a booking form that you have so many available seats that you can set in the backend and then when each seat/item has been sold then then will be noted in the back end, then once all have been sold then it will show as sold out.
hopefully this may be able to be put in to the RSBooking!
