I had the same question. Alex wrote me:

i would first like to release a stable version for Joomla 1.0.x then go on with the 1.5 compatibility patch.

Sounds right as joom1.x is going to be with us for a while, and there are hundreds of developers that have yet to offer 1.5 versions. I'm hoping to see that RC4 soon
