I have purchased & installed RSads. Unfortunately there does not appear to be any support route other than posting in this forum & sadly nobody seems to have had any replies to their problems. Anyway here goes with my problems. I have installed the demo adverts but have discovered two big problems. Firstly even though the ads for particular items e.g. the laptop computers are set as 'Active' (advert expiry date in the future) neither item appears in Computers for sale. Secondly while I can add adverts form the backend I cannot do this from the Joomla frontend as the URL that is linked to from 'New Ad' is invalid as it is | Code: | http://www.hostname.com/{ad_new_link}
|
I have the same problems with two different servers & even with vanilla Joomla installation with no extra components of templates other than RSads.
This would be a great component & just what we want for our site but at present it is useless. Have I been stupid & missed some step in the configuration that is causing these errors?
Nigel

nigel, it looks like it's just you an me here (which sucks). we're both paying customers getting no responses from the author.
that aside, i'm not experiencing the same problems as you. when I click 'new ad' on the front, it goes to: domain.com/component/option,com_rsads/Itemid,93/task,ad.new/cat_id,2/ and takes me to a form to submit things.
if you'd like to compare notes, we can. did you install the default data using the backup/restore feature?
Peace, James

It's 3 days now & no response from RSJoomla. This is totally unacceptable. I can accept poor support for a free Joomla extension but not when I have paid for it. The Ts&Cs for purchasing RSads state:- Please make sure that you are satisfied with the current version by testing the demo and make sure that you accept to purchase it as is. I was satisfied with the demo but unfortunately there is no demo to install on any of my systems & RSads does not work as advertised on any of my systems. Aslo the description of RSads states:- Although we are working on spotting & fixing existing bugs, the stable version of RSads! 1.0.0 is scheduled for late January 2008. Well, it's now February & there is no update. This empty promise coupled with the total lack of support for my problems or anyone else's with RSads or any other products from RSJoomla plus the impossibility of getting support in any form other than through this forum tells me that the product I have bought is not fit for purpose or of the quality expected.
I would like an immediate full refund of the 46.26 Euros that I paid.

Hi Alex, Thanks for joining and sorry you're down a man. Do you broadcast the message by e-mail when a new version is ready to go?
Thanks, James

It's nearly two weeks since I reported these problems. It's 6 days since Alex's apology & promise of a fix that afternoon but still there has been no response.
I really don't want to be dependent on a product where the supplier treats their customers so badly. Even if there is a fix provided today I will not use it as this contempt for paying customers is quite unacceptable.
I want my refund ASAP & I would recommend that nobody purchases this product unless they are totally satisfied that they will receive better support than I have had.

Also new to Rsads, but as a beta-test. @Jameswhen I click 'new ad' on the front, it goes to: /component/option,com_rsads/Itemid,93/task,ad.new/cat_id,2/ and takes me to a form to submit things. Isn't this supposed to happen when you want to post a new ad? If it's something else could you provide a link or describe it more clear? @NigelI was satisfied with the demo but unfortunately there is no demo to install on any of my systems & RSads does not work as advertised on any of my systems. You're telling you bought the component without trying a demo?! I don't see the problem, 'cause you chose to accept the terms for the 'as is'. Try to get a refund and become a beta-tester. I've tried several components, but this one looks very promising. http://www.hostname.com/{ad_new_link}I don't have a solution for the parameters. I hope Alex could solve this. @AlexIs it possible that you extend the time a user is logged in? I had to write the post all over again... Evert

You're telling you bought the component without trying a demo?! I don't see the problem, 'cause you chose to accept the terms for the 'as is'.The demo system on this site appears to work OK. If it worked like that I would have been happy. However before I could test it on my own systems I had to buy it & it does not work at all on any of the systems that I have tried. That by the way is not my main issue now. The reason I want an immediate refund is that there is no way that I am going to install & use any RSJoomla! applications on my site because of the absolutely awful support that I have received. From reading these forums it's the same experience for many other customers. As I have not had any offer of a refund from Alex then I will have to directly contact 2Checkout.com. I shall also be posting a full review of this product & my experiences on http://extensions.joomla.org

@ Nigelit is strange that the demo is working fine. Because Alex says it's compatible with the free AEL-component I tried to install it. Now it's possible to post ads . I was wondering if it also will be your solution. Could you give it a try?

Hi Alex.. First off.. I like your Email address when I had to Register.. "cute"
I have been working on a joomla website for quite some time and currently I have "Adsmanager" installed and it works, but I don't like the choices i have in configuring columns, fields, etc. I came across the RSads component and it appeared to be exactly what i want however, I am skepital about purchasing it due to the lack of support and stability I am reading about. When is the Stable version suppose to be available??? Your site indicated Late January 08, well it's now Late Feb 08. I read you are down a programmer and there are people here that are looking for various types of support. There has to be someone out here that has the beta version of Rsads up and running that you might be able to direct these people to that would free you up to consentrate on fixing any bugs with the beta version and continuing with the stable version. I really don't want to buy anything yet til I'm sure everything is working satisfactory. I hate to delete Admanager and install Rsads and mess up my site that I currently have.

Hey All,
Not a very happy crowd here. I recently tried the online demo, and liked it. I was and still am a little skeptical about the lack of contact options and the obvious lack of active support here ion the forums. At the time I was reviewing this component there was no option to download a free trial. The online demo works like a champ. Before I go further I want to tell Alex that I really really like this component and I have tried and am using the forms component, really great stuff. My install has a few issues:
1. First, I have p[aid for the component 2. I checked my server config and all is as it should be 3. The initial install went well 4. Adding the sample data went well too 5. customizing the forms and such went well too 6. Problems appeared when I started adding sample content of my own, using the forms I created. Items do not show up in the listings. I see that they are published, I have the system set to yes so that ads created post right away without the need for additional approval (only 2 of us run the site). I have tried removing the end date so that I have ------- as the date, I have tried extending the end date to 2010, I have tried renaming the ads, unpublishing and republishing and still can not get them to show up in the front end. And I don't receive the "category is empty" message either. 7. The search box seems to have some issues; If I try to search in a category other then the one I am in I don't get any results and remain in the category I was in. I think that when selecting a different category, whether any search words are added, that the newly selected category should load, either load the correct results or load the whole category if no matching result was found, with a message to that effect. I say this from an end user perspective. We as developers will put up with a lot more then the average user. 8. While viewing the list of ads I am unable to move through the ads as the pagination at the bottom of the list yields an error every-time I select it: document.adminForm.limitstart has no properties onclick(click clientX=0, clientY=0) This means that I can only view the first 15 ads out of my 30 demo ads. I know that I can select the category to view the items in it, but working with the whole picture is a must. 9. Any way to control the default number of ads displayed in the admin area? Currently it seems to be set to 15.
I'm not going to scream about refunds or any of that drivel, we all read the same bit of TOS prior to purchase. Thee is no doubt that this is the component I have been looking for and I have other projects that will benefit form it, once we get some of these issues ironed out, and get the support here in the forums up to speed. I understand the man down issue, But compared to other component publishers that charge $10 or don't charge at all but have very active forums, this area here needs some attention to grow both the support and the installed user base.
I hope to get some answers here, I'm going to try and answer some of the other questions I have seen, and hope that updates and better support for paying customers is in the not to distant future.
FYI; my current install of RSADS is for a commercial client, I really need to get this thing working as smoothly as the online demo, soon. If not I'll have to start from scratch, write off the cost of this as a loss, and thirdly wade through the other, less feature rich options and go with something other then what I want to use.
Sorry for the length, thanx in advance for any help received. Thanx for your other works Alex, I'm looking forward to this one getting right.
