My client has a lot of files to upload. Is it possible to upload via FTP or does he have to use the component?
The administrator has disabled public write access.

Hello,

You can upload the respective files in the /downloads folder via FTP, however note that you will have to set the file permissions from RSFiles!.
The administrator has disabled public write access.
