Joomla 1.7, RSE 1.2 Rev 24

I attempted to create my first category, but cannot do so.

On the category page of the admin section, the following is shown at the top:
Warning: mysqli_num_rows() expects parameter 1 to be mysqli_result, boolean given in /****/********/********/mysite.com/libraries/joomla/database/database/mysqli.php on line 305

When I attempt to actually create a category, the following error is displayed:
TableRsevents_Categories: :store failed
Unknown column 'parent' in 'field list' SQL=INSERT INTO `zmet_rsevents_categories` (`IdCategory`,`parent`,`CategoryName`,`CategoryColor`,`CategoryDescription`,`published`,`CategoryAlias`) VALUES ('','0','General','#6e5f5f','','1','general')

Please advise on a solution. This is occurring on my test server.
The administrator has disabled public write access.
